Tropical Depression Vamco (Ulysses) to Strengthen into Tropical Storm Impacting the Philippines on November 11

On late 11 November, Tropical Storm Vamco (Ulysses) is expected to strengthen to a typhoon and make landfall late in the evening into Thursday. Winds are expected to reach 96 mph (155 kph) for much of the Luzon and Metro Manilla area. Heavy rainfall is also expected across the Luzon region. Vamco will likely bring flooding, landslides, and possible utility, transit, and business disruptions should be expected.

Security Operation Due to Explosion in Gothenburg, Sweden on November 11

An explosion occurred at a doctor’s office in Gothenburg shortly after 11:00 local time on 11 November. Two women, one severely, were injured by the explosion. Police are investigating the cause of the blast as well as the nature of the device used. Travel near Första Långgatan can resume and a heightened police presence is expected in the near term.

Petroleum Worker Protests in Betim, Brazil on November 11

Unionized petroleum workers are anticipated to protest on 11 November. Participants are expected to gather in front of the Portaria de Regap (Refinaria Gabriel Passos) at 07:00 local time. The protest is to assert petroleum workers’ labor rights and to demand the reinstatement of dismissed workers who were unlawfully dismissed. The participants are also calling for the replacement of the directors involved.

Areas at risk of crime and terrorism are the Peruvian border area in the Loreto Region, The Valley of the Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM). Also, areas within the Departments of Ayacucho, Cusco, Huancavelica, and Junin.
