Because of the increase in COVID-19 cases as well as heightened risk of crime and terrorism Peru issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice. Areas at risk of crime and terrorism are the Peruvian border area in the Loreto Region, The Valley of the Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM). Also, areas within the Departments of Ayacucho, Cusco, Huancavelica, and Junin.
Traveler Safety
Travelers should reconsider entering Peru at this time. The US government has limited ability to help U.S. citizens since they are restricted from traveling to certain regions. If you are in any of these areas currently avoid travel, find safe shelter, and contact your program leaders.
